One of the most notable points of interest in the village is the church of La Madre de Dios de Jesús, known to be the oldest on the island. The church was built in throughout the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries and was previously lived by Franciscan and Dominican Monks. The Nostra Mare de Jesus, as it is also referred, has a very valuable piece – a sixteenth century Gothic altar. Painted by Rodrigo de Osuna in around 1500, it comprises 25 different themed panels. Some experts look at the image of the Church’s Virgin as one of the most beautiful within the Spanish medieval iconography.
The beautiful churchyard featuring water wheel and lemon trees is the ideal spot if you are looking for some privacy.
The popular beach resort of Talamanca is also situated just a few kilometres away and is similarly enticing.
